India and Israel share a very close military bond. After the Kargil War in 1999, India looked to plug the leaks created by defective and ineffective weapons. They bought a lot of weapons from all around the world and soon they became the 2nd largest importer of weapons in the world after Saudi Arabia. Israel is the 2nd largest exporter of weapons to India after Russia. India imports a lot of weapons like Assault rifles, pistols, machine guns, grenades etc. and also imports heavy machinery and weapons such as retrofitting of planes, AWACS equipment etc.
Israel does a lot of retrofitting for Indian equipment. Israel has fit the Phalcon AWACS into 3 Indian Air Force Ilyushin IL-76s very recently. They have also worked on Night Vision for tanks. They have worked on finding flaws with other jets in the Indian Air Force and found solutions to these flaws. Israels reliability and superior technology makes them a very reliable supplier to Indias defences.
Many Indian army soldiers and Special Forces base their training in Israel. Israeli counterparts train them with the latest techniques on the battlefield and make them efficient combat units.
India and Israel have conducted many joint military exercises and have learned of each others capabilities and enhanced them. All three branches of the armed forces and their respective special units of both countries have expanded and enhanced their capabilities as a result of their friendship.

They share a lot of intelligence and coordinate against terror. They also train each others intelligence and update each other with the latest techniques and technology used in espionage.
Military research is one of the key areas of the Indo-Israeli military relationship. Military scientists from both countries are involved in joint projects for research on equipment and weaponry. They have come up with significant breakthroughs and innovations
This close military relationship has proved most beneficial to both Israel and India. With continued military cooperation, both countries can enhance and expand their military capabilities and meet any military challenge head-on and tackle problems of terrorism
